My journey in the United States started as an immigrant from Colombia. This was more than a physical move - it was a move that I knew would change the course of my life. My first challenge was to learn a new language while revalidating my engineering skills and credentials that I had already proven many times over as a university professor. I had a strong desire to face these challenges because I had a deep drive to succeed in this country and knew that I had the intellect, the wits, and the deep inner drive to ensure a successful outcome.
It turns out that I was a great engineer, and I was able to build a successful career in the tech industry as a result. My skills teaching others difficult concepts were highly valued by software companies, and my artistic side (I am also a painter) brought a different perspective to my profession and was unique. I became a thought leader in artificial intelligence and analytics and am proud of the meaningful contributions I have made to this business. My life’s philosophy is that innovation is born from both sides of the brain. I believe this to my core, and this balance drives both my personal and professional lives.
The Taste of Balance was conceived on the roof of the now-defunct Spa Vitale at the Hotel Vitale. Surrounded by a bamboo garden, my spouse and I enjoyed the sounds of the city and an incredible view of the Bay Bridge. We envisioned creating something together that we could enjoy and work on in our spare time. Something fun and meaningful that would also teach our kids about the importance of having a dream and chasing it.
We knew we wanted to use our passion for technology and innovation and combine it with our creative side. We wanted to build a product that would bring relaxation and mindfulness to those who would go on the journey with us. This is where creative engineering took root. We use generative AI to create paint by number kits that are high quality and fun to paint. This simple yet profound activity gives our customers the ability to step away from the daily norm and give time to themselves for relaxing, meditating, and finding their own creativity.
Our three boys have been an integral part of the birth of The Taste of Balance and has made this journey even more valuable. They have been actively involved in the growth of our business, from making design suggestions to helping assemble the tubes to coming up with the rules of the game:

As our vision continues to grow, we see even more clearly that our products are not just a way to grow and teach, they are also the door to a better, more thoughtful world. We are driven to provide a path for each of you to find a calmer, more mindful existence. Choose your favorite painting and find a place to relax.
